Impendle coordinator Zodwa Maramane (right) recently helped a client to obtain her dead husband’s retirement fund of R140 000. On the man’s death, his family approached a company in Pietermaritzburg, stating that the deceased was unmarried and that therefore his provident fund should pass to his brothers. The company believed them and agreed to transfer the money.
The wife approached Zodwa for assistance, and she accompanied the client to the factory where her husband used to work. After meeting Zodwa and seeing the original marriage certificate, the company realised that they had made a mistake, and in October 2010 the money was rightfully transferred to the wife. Zodwa is presently helping her to invest it in a savings account.
